We had a special reason today to celebrate and went out to “Fairview” on the outskirts of Paarl for lunch. It is a most accomodating place any day or time of the year. Most deliciously, you are greated by a goat, goat-greeting from his tower above. Such is the vibe and the atmosphere there, the allure, the inviting.
It had been raining for the last few days and while we were driving out to Paarl, the skies were clearing somewhat. The farm dams looked rather dry though and in need of rain. A red flood alert had been put out on radio earlier – the beginning of the wet season in the Cape.
The “Goatshed” Restaurant at Fairview is just that, a shed, of generous proportions, utterly simple, pared down to essentials and full of really rural charm.
The food is of similar quality and equally unaffected. Here they embrace the term “Artisanal” (see “Slow Food”), and have an excellent staff. It never fails to please – now that is something!
